November Currently

I have just enough time to link up with Farley before I pass out. These last few weeks have been exhausting. I am super excited about an app I just downloaded to help me create my November Currently on my iPad. Thanks Heather!!! The app is called skitch and it is free and easy to use.

My boys are completely addicted to this game. Watching them play makes me feel really dumb because I can't keep up with what they are doing. I have to wonder if my mother felt like that watching me play Donkey Kong or Super Mario Brothers on the old Nintendo 64. (I won't give away my age by saying that I had an Atari before that.)

I just love the cool weather we are finally having even though we will probably be wearing shorts on Thanksgiving.

Mistletoe Market is all about Christmas products. I think I may take off Friday to go with my bestie. I love shopping. While we are in Jackson, maybe I can look for new shoes.

I love listening to all kinds of music. I have a playlist for each unit in our reading series. I also have a folder of YouTube brain break videos to watch. My favorite one is just called brain music and it really calms my kiddos down. I like to listen to the grammar songs on Havefunteaching.com. I also love Pandora.

That is as long as I can hold my eyelids open for now. Don't forget to follow the rule of three if you link up.

Reading Street Review for Unit 2 Test and a freebie

Sorry I abandoned my blog for a while.  My kids have been keeping me very busy.  My 7th grader is in the high school band and we have a had a band contest every weekend for the last month.  Yesterday was the state championship.  Our band is the State Champions for the 4th year in a row.  WOOHOO!!!!
Today I am letting my tired band student sleep in while I get some school work completed.  We just completed Unit 2 in our reading series.  It was a hard unit for my kids to understand.  They had a really hard time with nouns, especially possessive nouns.  They will have an even harder time next week when I give them the Unit 2 test and the questions are in a strange format.  So I created 5 different reviews to use to get them ready for the Unit test.  I plan on giving three of them for homework so they can get some one-on-one practice with their parents and using the other 2 as morning work this week.  Click on the picture to purchase the review in my TPT store.

I hope someone can use these.  We have been having lots of fun learning about bats and getting ready for Halloween.  We are also learning to regroup with two-digit addition.  I hope to come with some extra practice for this skill soon.

Snow White and 7 S'mores

Snow White and the 7 S'mores, Santa and his Dwarfs, and One Fuzzies.

What do all of these things have in common?????

These are just a few of the things our 2nd graders are confused about this week and last.

It started last Friday. My class was working on writing a paragraph. As usual, my kids were screaming kindly asking me to write words on the board that they didn't know how to spell. One angel asked me to write warm fuzzies on the board. I wrote it on the board and one of my smartest angels said, "You wrote that wrong." I asked, "I wrote what wrong?" "You wrote warm fuzzies wrong," she said. Another bright angel chimes in, "Yeah you spelled it w-a-r-m." "That is correct," I stated. "No it isn't!" says my whole class. I ask, "Then what is the correct way to write it?" They all said, "O-n-e." HELLO, where have you all been all year. The front of the jar says WARM FUZZIES I showed them. Now you must understand I have said, "I am giving you a warm fuzzy" many times this year. I have also said, "I am giving you 3 warm fuzzies" many times. Would it make sense to say "I am giving you 3 one fuzzies?" I don't think so. Anywho.

This is homecoming week for us. My kids were unbelievable calm today considering they were dressed up for Disney/Fairy Tale day. The 2nd and 3rd grade teachers dressed up as the 7 dwarfs and we also roped in a Snow White.

One of Flo's students said, "Oh y'all are the S'Mores." "Say what?" she asked. "You know, like Snow White and the 7 S'Mores," he said. OK.

My sweetest angel, who gives hugs and kisses everyday, asked me where Santa was. UUUUUHHHHHHHMMMMM. "Say what," I said. "You know Santa and his dwarfs," he said. Alrighty then I said.

Needless to say we will be watching Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs as soon as I can figure out how to fit it in my lesson plans because Elvis (our principal) has a strict rule about watching movies that are not involved in a lesson some way.

Here is a picture of Snow White and the 7 S'Mores. Can't wait to see what they say about mine and Flo's twin outfit tomorrow. We are wearing matching house dresses, slippers, and eye glasses. Which reminds me, I must go paint my fingernails and toenails purple so they will match hers. We were going to sponge roll our hair, but seeing as how I have to go to the doctor for my yearly checkup and she has to deliver drugs we decided against the rollers and opted for shower caps instead.

Shut the front door. STOP panicking!!!!!! I can hear you. Flo does deliver drugs. Can't you tell by looking at her? (She and I are the last ones standing on right) It is her side job. Two days a week, after a hard day of teaching she heads to the drug store to deliver prescription drugs to shut ins and people who are lazy don't have time for things such as running through the drive through at the drugstore.

I just love teaching elementary. We get to have all of the fun!!!!!! I am so glad to be back in the classroom this year. I missed it!!!!!!!!

One last misconception, Flo had a picture she had drawn of a popcorn popper to hang on her board. The object was when they got enough tallies they would have a popcorn popper. She put it up during PE. When her kids came in today they all wanted to know why all that popcorn was coming out of a crock pot. The poor babies don't know what a real popcorn popper looks like.

October Behavior Calendar

Well my son did not win his election. He wasn't upset at all and was glad he ran. 

I decided to go ahead and make my October behavior calendar before someone had to remind me.

We just completed Unit 1 of our Reading Series.  I finally feel like I have figured out what I am doing with this new series.  I hope to create some new things to teach the skills instead of using the boring workbook pages.  I feel like I can start the Daily 5 correctly now that I have a feel for the basal. 

 

Words Their Way is going great.  I love it!  I have 4 groups.  They come in on Monday morning and cut out their sorts before the bell rings.  They spend about 10 minutes a day sorting.  On Monday they do a sort and read their words to a neighbor, Tuesday they do a sort and write their words in their spelling notebook, Wednesday they do a sort and a word hunt, Thursday they do a blind sort with a partner, and on Friday morning they glue their words in their notebook.  I give one test at a time.  I would like to start making some games for them to play but I think I will tackle that in about 6 more weeks.

 

I am going out of town this weekend and I didn't bring a single school thing home to take with me to work on.  I plan on reading a book that Flo let me borrow several weeks ago.  What books are you reading????

 

I also hope to find some of these out of town since we no longer have them here.  If I find some I am going to stock up on them.  These things make everything better. 

 

 

 



Laminator Giveaway

Tarragon at My Binding sent me a laminator to try out and it is the BOMB! I have been making all kinds of games and laminating them. My kids are loving them. I haven't taken any pictures because my life has been a whirlwind since school started. The best part about this laminator is that you can laminate larger things. It will laminate 11 X17 paper. It doesn't take up much space and it is super quiet.

The good news is that Tarragon has agreed to let me give a laminator away to a follower for free. All you have to do is become a follower of my blog & my TPT store and leave me a comment including your e-mail address.

My son is running in the student council elections this week so I spent most of the weekend helping make posters and favors. His name is Hunter and he loves to hunt so we had to go with this slogan.

Free fonts & iFont tutorial
